Selection of Motorhome-Approved Tyres (CP marking)

The CP (Camping Pressure) marking is the European standard specifically developed for motorhomes. CP tyres are designed to withstand higher pressures (up to 5.5 bar at the rear) to limit deformation caused by prolonged static load during your stopovers.

Why choose CP-marked tyres?

The CP (Camping Pressure) marking indicates that the tyre has been specifically designed to meet the unique demands of leisure vehicles. Motorhome tyres incorporate technologies that make your journey safer.

Reinforced construction against static load

A motorhome often remains stationary for long periods (winter storage, extended stopovers) while retaining its full interior fit-out and full tanks.

CP tyres feature a reinforced casing that limits the phenomenon of "flat-spotting" (irreversible deformation of the casing). This specific architecture allows the tyre to retain its original shape despite constant pressure being applied at the same contact patch.

Increased stability and reduced body roll

A motorhome has a high centre of gravity, which generates lateral sway in corners or in strong winds.

CP tyres have stiffened sidewalls offering better road grip. This greater rigidity stabilises the vehicle, reduces roll and delivers more precise steering.

A compound and tread pattern suited to campsites

The rubber compound is optimised to better resist ageing caused by prolonged exposure to UV and the elements.

The tread pattern is designed to offer better traction on soft surfaces, such as wet grass or dirt tracks, common on pitches and parking areas.

Are CP tyres mandatory on a motorhome?

No, fitting CP tyres is not a universal legal requirement, but it is a major technical recommendation. However, if the manufacturer of your motorhome has type-approved the vehicle specifically with CP-marked tyres, you are required to maintain that fitment.

Grip500 tip: Even if the C (Commercial) tyre, designed for light commercial vehicles, is a technically possible choice depending on your vehicle’s type approval, the motorhome (CP) tyre remains our recommendation to preserve the structure of your tyres during winter storage and to ensure optimal stability on the road.

Motorhome tyre inflation pressure

Maintaining correct pressure is essential for the longevity of your tyres and your safety on the road. In the absence of specific indications from your vehicle’s manufacturer, the ETRTO (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation) recommendations for CP-type tyres are as follows:

  • Front: between 4.5 and 5.0 bar. A slightly lower front pressure helps maintain optimal ride comfort and better steering grip.
  • Rear: 5.5 bar. This higher pressure is essential to stabilise the habitation unit, limit roll and support the permanent load of the equipment.

Important note: Metal valves

It is important to note that when inflation pressure exceeds 4.5 bar, the stresses become too great for standard rubber valves. These then present a real risk of leakage or sudden failure.

For inflation to 5.5 bar, the use of rigid screw-in metal valves is essential. They ensure perfect sealing and are the only ones capable of withstanding the high pressures required by motorhome (CP) tyres safely.
