Some tyres are specially developed for a particular vehicle model and to meet specific requirements as per the manufacturer's request. These tyres of course result in excellent performance when fitted to the car for which they've been designed....
Manufacturers indicate these special features with an 'OE' marking, which stands for 'Original Equipment', on the sidewall of the tyres. Here are the markings a for each vehicle brand:
Manufacturer | OE marking(s) |
---|---|
Audi | A0, A01 |
Audi Quattro | RO1, RO2, RO3 |
Alfa Romeo | AR |
Bentley | B, B1 |
BMW | * |
Ferrari | F, K1, K2, K3 |
Jaguar | J |
Lamborghini | L |
Land Rover | LR |
Maserati | MGT |
Mercedes-Benz | MO, MOE (Runflat), MO1 (AMG) |
Porsche | N0, N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6 |

You are of course free to choose tyres other than those that have the OE marking for your vehicle. Using OE tyres is by no means an obligation.
